Raised on a farm in Southeastern Illinois, Brent Allan Winters served in the Air Gunnery Division aboard Aircraft Carrier USS Coral Sea, and then as a team member of Mobile Diving Unit One, Pearl Harbor, Detachment 319 (now discontinued). Following military service, Brent studied geology. He continued his education as a graduate student at Biola University; then completed law school at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Brent worked as a geologist and mining engineer in Arizona, and in Nevada. While in law school, Brent studied under the late William Franklin Fratcher, legal historian, Nuremberg prosecutor, and long time editor of Scott on Trusts, who stimulated Brent's interest in the essence and worth of our common-law ideals, and trusts and trust law. Brent has worked with lawyers in other states and countries. He practices mining law, trust law, civil litigation, and criminal defense. Brent recently completed the book, Excellence of the Common Law, comparing and contrasting the common-law tradition with the civil-law tradition.
