About the book:"Appealing
to the false notion that all ideas are of equal value, the spirit of
the times demands that Americans ignore the profound distinctions
between the world's two dominant traditions of law and government:
common law and civil law. American submission to this undiscerning
spirit will concentrate government power, impede liberty, chill
creativity, and prevent productivity. Each American who insists that
our courts and government function only upon the foundations of our
common law tradition, contributes to the progress of freedom." "If we search out the origins of Roman [civil] law, we must study Babylon." "The
whole structure of our present jurisprudence stands upon the original
foundations of the common law . . . and by the goodness of God, we are
now enjoying under its bold and many principles, the blessings of a
free, independent, and united government." About the Author:Brent Allan Winters was raised on a farm in Southeastern Illinois and is a practicing lawyer. He served aboard Aircraft Carrier USS Coral Sea, in Mobile Diving Unit 1, Pearl Harbor, and as an Army Reserve Chaplain. Following military service, Brent worked as a mining geologist. Brent and Susan, his wife of thirty-one years, live in Northern California. They have eight children and two grandchildren. He believes that American affinity for common law and government is a product of biblical faith. |
